It played back more, or less, than I sang

Ancora decides where a phrase begins and ends from the sound itself: a rest shorter than two seconds stays inside the phrase, a longer one ends it. Someone talking is not singing and ends a phrase too. If it cuts a phrase in half or joins two, write to us and say roughly what you were singing – that is the kind of report we can act on.

A key I played is missing from the recording

That is deliberate. While the phone’s own speaker is sounding a note, the microphone is hearing the phone rather than you, so those seconds are never part of a take. Put on headphones and the rule lifts, because then the microphone cannot hear the piano at all.

Where are my recordings?

On the phone, in the Files app under On My iPhone › Ancora. Every take is a plain 24-bit WAV: the raw one exactly as the microphone heard it, and beside it the copy you hear in the app, levelled for comfortable listening. Both are yours; nothing is uploaded.

How many takes does it keep?

The ten most recent, plus every one you have starred, for as long as you keep it.

Does it work with headphones or an external microphone?

Yes. Wired headphones and USB or Lightning microphones work as they do elsewhere on iOS. Bluetooth headphones play sound but do not become the microphone: a Bluetooth headset microphone would cost most of the audio quality the app exists to protect.
