Privacy Policy
Sunsets by Ambleway, for iOS. Effective August 19, 2026.
Overview
Sunsets is built by Impulse Arc LLC. There is no account, no sign-in, and no advertising. The app contains no analytics framework, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracking of any kind: nothing about you is sent to any company other than us. What the app does send is a location, because a sunset forecast is a fact about a place and cannot be computed without one. This policy says exactly what leaves your phone, where it goes, and what is kept.
Location
Sunsets asks for your location while you are using it. If you allow it, the app sends the coordinate to our own server at www.ambleway.com to fetch two things: the sunset forecast for that place, and the short walks to a sunset viewpoint near it. You can instead search for a place by name, in which case that place's coordinate is used and your device's own location is never read.
These requests carry no name, no account, and no identifier for you or your device. We do not store the coordinates they carry, and we cannot connect one request to another or to a person. Our server keeps ordinary web request logs, which include the IP address your request arrived from, for a short period, to keep the service running and to investigate abuse.
Sunset alerts
If you turn on alerts for good sunsets, two things are stored on our server so we can send them: the notification token Apple issues for your installation of the app, and the approximate area the alert is for. The area is deliberately coarse — the coordinate you chose is rounded to the roughly 25-kilometre cell the sky is forecast in, and only that cell is kept, because that is all the decision to notify you needs. Your exact position is not stored. The score you asked to be told about is stored alongside them.
Apple's notification token identifies an installation of an app on a device, not a person; it is not your Apple ID, your name, or your advertising identifier, and we hold nothing else that could connect it to you. Turning alerts off in the app deletes the record from our server. Deleting the app invalidates the token, and Apple then reports it to us as gone.
What is stored on your phone
Your chosen place, your saved places, and your alert preference are stored on your own device, and shared with the app's home-screen widget through a private container that only these apps can read. None of it is sent to us.
If you enter your email address on one of our websites, we store it solely to reply to you and to send occasional notes about the app. It is held by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, is never sold or shared, and is not used for advertising. Ask us to delete it at any time by emailing [email protected].
Children
Sunsets is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. There is nothing in the app to sign up for.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new effective date. If a change means the app collects something it did not collect before, we will say so plainly here rather than only changing the wording.
